Percossa overwhelms Taiwan
06-06-2008
Dutch percussion group Percossa is back in Holland from Taiwan. The drummers played their show "From Holland" in the huge national Concert Hall in Taipei and in the Performing Arts Hall in Tainan after being invited by TIPC (Taipei International Percussion Convention). Both concerts were incredibly successful. Afterwards, hundreds of Taiwanese fans queued up for autographs and photo's with the four players. Some even offered their mobile phone to be autographed. The autograph session lasting already over an hour, it had to be stopped and hundreds of fans had to return home without autographs.
The concert were part of one of the biggest international percussion conventions in the world. Percossa did not only meet approval from the Taiwanese audiences, collegues attending were also full of praise. Among them some important names like Percussions de Stasbourg, keiko Abe, Emmanuel Séjourné, Gary Cook and Steve Houghton (President and President-elect of the Percussive Arts Society from the US).
The Percussive Arts Society (PAS) invites Percossa to apply for their own international convention, PASIC, in 2009. Talks are being held with South-Korea (Seoul), Hong Kong and China (Beijing, Shanghai, Macau). Spain and Mexico also showed interrest.

The internationally acclaimed act Percossa started to do musical theatre busking in the streets of southern France at the end of the 80s. There, the performers were forced to use a variety of means to captivate the attention of passers-by. It is clear that the spirit and nature of busking continue inspiring Percossa’s urge to entertain and its commitment to artistic renewal. It is also the cause for the inevitability of variety and the instinct for musical theatre which defines the group. In 1998, Percossa took all their musical and theatrical knowledge to the theatre.
The group started their first theatre tour in February 1998, performing the ‘Rhythmix.’ The overwhelming success led to a rerun the following year. Percossa then staged their well-acclaimed productions, such as ‘Alle Gekheid met een Stokje’ in 2000, ‘HITMEN’ in 2001 and a rerun in 2003, ‘Pulse’ in 2003 and its rerun in 2005. In 2006, Percossa presented their fifth show, ‘From Holland,’ which they will bring to Taiwan during the 2008 TIPC.
